Shall We Date? Solmare latest line up Obey Me! One Master To Rule Them All offering us a brand new story and system. Rather than offering us the usual concept of Otome Game, they introduce a new game for the female audience in the shape of ‘anime style rpg card game’ as they advertise.
This game actually have been out for some time now but I just finally got the time to actually finish this post 😅
Now, we in the international market has synonym otome game with dating sim/ romance game for girl where we can pick a guy and well romance them… therefore with this kind of definition I will say Obey Me! is not an otome game. The story offer here is much much more general to the point it left a feeling of unsatisfied.
The main point of this game is to collect cards that feature the handsome devil brothers in order to get stronger army in dance battle (yep, you read that right 🕺), unlocking their story and so on. The story is there to give us more background and immersion of the game. However since they aim to allow both gender audience to play this game, the character lack personality and sense of self 😅
Anyway let’s look into the game~
The game start of with a scene where you meet Diavolo for the first time. Where you are told unceremoniously that you are an exchange student to Devildom. Then you move in a dorm where 7 devil brothers live and meet all sort of handsome and cute devil, angel and even human. There are story here but like I said it is much more general where the choice you pick doesn’t affect the flow of the story. The choices can help improve intimacy with the devil brothers but it can be ignore all together. It still interesting to read actually and I enjoy learning all sort of secret hidden by the devil brothers.
Leaving the story aside I love that the developer incorporate modern appliance and trend in this game. It’s give this game more depth and more fun things to explore and do. This app introduce function such as Phone where you can receive call from the Devil Brothers, chat where you can chat or read their well chat, Devilgram like Instagram where you can unlock the story from the card you collect. and so on.
So let’s make a little rundown what’s good and bad about this game according to me. Please feel free to agree or disagree this is just my little opinion.
Good/Pro:
- Handsome boys with different personality and story. The devil brother’s was given the tittle of 7 original sins. So yeah just by those sin you can imagine how they will act but of course it’s interesting how they are presented in this story.
- Refreshing play style. Not an original but yep it’s refreshing especially that dance battle. ;p
- Interesting story. Despite my misgiving about certain point, the story actually manage to hook me up and make me want to read more.
- Used of our daily umm… what’s the word… convenience. In short I love how they apply the phone, chat and other interesting stuff in this app.
- Free spin for card and high drop rate for UR, SSR and SR. I mean I at least, manage to get UR using the Free Spin ❤ With my average luck at best that was a great achievement.
- Easy to get Devil Point (DP) the in-game currency by doing mission, event and log in everyday.
- Easy event… well the event have fixed number of attempt of battle you can make so it doesn’t take to much of your time to complete it. Of course if you want to rank high you have the option for ‘increasing’ your battle attempt using DP.
- It’s voiced!!! Well with Phone function it will be weird if it’s not voiced haha ;P
Bad/Con:
- MC lack personality, background and sense of self since Solmare want to make gender less mc and want player to choose the mc trait themselves by giving us choices.
- Choices have no meanings. So don’t stress yourself with what to pick. If you are not satisfy of your choice just replay that scene again and choose different option. However this is consider a bad point for me since I want what we choose to actually matter in the story.
- Used energy to do task needed for battle, collecting item to level up your card and progress your story.
- Card based… my luck is average at best…
- Certain items are needed to level up card. Well since this is a so called free game I admit this level of difficulty is kinda necessary but I just want to point this one out. ;p
- Card unfortunately influence the point you get in event. You have to spin the event gacha in order to get UR or SSR card event that can help increase the event point you get when doing the dance battle for event.
- Previous chat have no influence to current chat. Some chat are connected but unfortunately some… especially the individual chat you receive doesn’t connect with previous one. I guess with Mystic Messenger as benchmark I kinda expect something more.
Neither bad nor good:
- You can collect UR, SSR and SR card by collecting card pieces. Of course some will like it and some will hate it. For me it’s fine… it just a bit hassle to collect them especially the one given in event ;P Anyway this card pieces can be gain by spinning gacha in Nightmare (quite appropriate named) especially Chapter G which can be spin by using Grimm which can be easily obtain in Job or task, task itself especially in the hard mode will also give you this card piece and of course in event itself.
In conclusion, I find this game quite entertaining and it is among the few game I still played in my phone. Of course this game is not perfect but in terms of entertainment I will give it 7/10.
TBH I don’t think this post is quite complete yet but I will stop writing here. I will add this appropriately later but for now I will end my little post here. Thanks for reading.
